A new JRC study details the potential of bio-based chemicals in EU markets, and estimates their annual growth rate at about 3.6% per year from 2024 to 2025. WebBio-based chemicals primarily comprise a wide range of chemicals, produced from biomass. They vary from niche specialty products to large-scale commodity products like ethanol, succinic acid, and lactic acid, among others. Several bio-based chemicals may also act as building blocks for other materials, and are thus, termed as platform chemicals.
