They are always crafted with 50 charges, but you might find a used one with less. Obtain Familiar (CA) is also great, especially with Improved Familiar (DMG and CW) for an Imp or Quasit.

It also has a class feature that increases the save DC for wands based on class level. I think one of the old Stormwind Optimization Showcases used Legacy Champion and Uncanny Trickster to increase the effective Cannith Wand Adept level.

It essentially allows you to use three wands at once, using as many charges from each as you have wands loaded in the rod (so, if you load three wands into the wand, you use three charges everytime you cast). Three spell effects simultaneously?

The activation method does not change, so why need additional checks? As a Goliath you could benefit from Powerful build if you make a "simple" trip-attack build. To have or not have a nasty +4 bonus due to race sometimes all there is to do this.
