When you can start doing lvl 4's, beams/tachyons are usually the better option wich you'll use t1 or faction ammo for. Not very long, about 8.3 minutes in pve with a gank fitted legion (7474 shots/h) per crystal (about 45 minutes per set of 6 crystals).
