WebThe flood waters hit Mannum in July 1956. Mud and debris were deposited everywhere and smelt horrible. Six hundred homes in the district were flooded, as well as two hundred holiday shacks. Some were totally destroyed. The ferry was out of operation for over six months and new roads had to be built on higher ground above the flood level. WebThe risk from the large sewage retention ponds for the Murray Bridge and Mannum Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) was rated as high. These ponds are located below the 1956 flood level and are immediately adjacent to the river (<20 m), though the wastewater does not routinely discharge to the river.
